An integrated methodological approach is followed for the quantification of minimum water level in lakes and minimum water flow in rivers; specifically, the research involves:

  • water requirements of basic biological features of aquatic ecosystems such as macrophytes and fish fauna,
  • climate change and its impact on ecosystems and
  • existing and future water requirements for the main human activities in the project areas.

The project is implemented through the following actions:

Α1. Analysis of the requirements of fish fauna and macrophytes as regards the fluctuation of the water level in lakes

Α2. Analysis of the requirements of fish fauna as regards the water flow in rivers

Β. Prediction of climatic parameters for the next 50 years

C1. Proposals for management of water resources at the catchment scale to achieve the minimum water level in lakes

C2. Proposals for management of water resources at the catchment scale to achieve the minimum water flow in river systems

D. Project management

Ε. Plan for Information and Publicity regarding the project
